63150_565057180186513_871046691_nThis photo was published in 1987; it is supposed to show Oscar Wilde in costume as Salome. But, in 1992, Oscar’s grandson would confirm the photo (1907) is actually Hungarian opera singer Alice Guszalewicz
in the title role in Salomé
(R. Strauss)
in Leipzig.-
“Paradoxically though it may seem, it is none the less true that life imitates art far more than art imitates life.” (Oscar Wilde)

Evi_Lemberger-betweenthenandnow27
Between then and now is a documentary project by Evi Lemberger about people and places from a vanishing world. It” is situated in the Bavarian Forest, which is characterized by its rural structure and which is undergoing massive shifts from a traditional to a modern society. Result is the loss of an old life, along with its values and traditions. Another result is a necessity of leaving those behind and starting something new. Thereby those places and people are left behind.” >more (photos & text)

“Berlin used to be Germany’s hippest city, but the once scruffy capital has long since succumbed to gentrification. The latest city to attract the creative class is the former East German industrial seat of Leipzig. Moving in by the thousands, they are lured by the euphoric buzz of cheap rent and youthful ingenuity.”
