Posted in Uncategorized on 6 September 2011 by delclem

110 years ago, Leon Czolgosz assassinated U.S. President William McKinley at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York; he was the son of Polish immigrants from Prussia. His ghastly execution on the electric chair was filmed by Thomas Alva Edison on 29 October 1901.

The film and other art works on the topic of Animism are to be seen at the Viennese exhibition Modernity through the Looking Glass (Generali Foundation, 15 Sept 2011 – 29 January 2012). More info > website

Chester Brown: Paying For It

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on 2 September 2011 by delclem

“There’s a new Brown book out this weekend, however, that may test the tolerance of those whose affection for Brown starts and ends with his illustrated biography of Métis leader Louis Riel.  Called Paying for It, the “comic-strip memoir” tracks Brown’s sexual adventures in the past 12 years with more than 20 female “escorts” in Toronto. Smart, unflinchingly honest, frequently funny, occasionally charming – and chock-full of nudity.” Article by James Adams (c) THE GLOBE & MAIL, 2011
