“Born 150 years ago today, on April 22nd 1763, Austrian author Cajetan Tschink was born in Vienna. At the age of 17 he asked for permission to enter the Barnabite Order but a few months later he was accepted into the Carmelite Order which he left before ordination. Instead he began his studies of philosophy at Jena. Later Tschink became Professor of Philosophy and Metaphysics in Olmütz/Olomouc in Moravia, Czech Republic. In November 1809 appeared an obituary announcing Tschink’s death in Olmütz (November 7th, 1809), and another one in 1813 stating that he died on August, 26th in the same town! He is best remembered as the author of the German secret society novel Geschichte eines Geistersehers_ (1790-93) which was translated by the German Lutheran Reverend Peter Will as The Victim of Magical Delusion (1795). Later that year the novel appeared in an American weekly under a slightly different title.” Source: The Gothic Vault 2013
